# Frosting
## Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp water
- 4 1/2 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 1/3 cups sifted confectioners sugar
- 1 egg
- 2/3 cup Spry
- 1 tsp vanilla
## Instructions
1. Boil water and granulated sugar for 1 minute.
2. Beat confectioners sugar with egg and combine with the above mixture.
3. Add Spry and vanilla.
4. Beat until creamy. -
All-Bran Muffins
2 tablespoons shortening 3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup sugar 1 cup flour
1 egg 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup Kellogg's All-Bran 21/2 teaspoons baking powder
Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly; add egg and beat until creamy. Add All-Bran
and milk; let soak until the moisture is taken up. Sift flour with salt and baking powder;
add to first mixture and stir only until flour disappears. Fill greased muffin pans two-thirds
full and bake in moderate oven (400° F.) about 30 minutes.
Yield: 8 large muffins (3" in diameter) or 12 small (21/4" in diameter).
Note: When sour milk or buttermilk is used instead of sweet milk, use 1/2 teaspoon soda
and only 1 teaspoon baking powder.

- 1 egg
- 1 cup Kellogg's All-Bran
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
## Instructions
1. Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly; add egg and beat until creamy.
2. Add All-Bran and milk; let soak until the moisture is taken up.
3. Sift flour with salt and baking powder; add to first mixture and stir only until flour disappears.

sift flour add B. powder and salt. Break eggs
in cup and add enough shortening to fill
cup. Put all ingredients into mixing
bowl and beat vigorously 2 minutes. Bake
in three - 9 - Pan. 375. 25 minutes (over)

## Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 2 tsp Calumet baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 eggs, unbeaten
- Soft shortening, enough to fill cup (with eggs)
- 1 cup milk
- 2 cups sugar
## Instructions
1. Sift flour, add baking powder and salt.
2. Break eggs into a measuring cup and add enough soft shortening to fill the cup (1 cup total).
3. Put all ingredients into mixing bowl and beat vigorously 2 minutes.
4. Bake in three 9-inch pans at 375° for 25 minutes.
## Frosting
1. Spread soft chocolate frosting between layers and on top of cake. -

# Grape Nut Pudding

## Ingredients
- 1 pt milk, scalded
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup Grape-Nuts cereal
- 1 egg, separated (yolk and white beaten separately)
- Salt
- Vanilla (to taste)
## Instructions
1. Scald the milk in a double boiler on top of the stove.
2. Add the Grape-Nuts to the hot milk.
3. Add the sugar and cook until the mixture thickens.
4. Add the egg yolk and remove from the stove.
5. Add the beaten egg white, salt, and vanilla flavoring.
6. Stir to combine and serve. -

# Cup Cake

## Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp soda
- 1 tsp cream of tartar
- Little salt
- 1/4 cup shortening (butter & lard)
- 2 eggs
- Sweet milk (enough to fill cup after adding eggs)
- Vanilla
## Instructions
1. Combine flour, sugar, soda, cream of tartar, and a little salt; sift all together three times.
2. Measure 1/4 cup shortening (butter and lard) into a cup.
3. Break 2 eggs into the shortening, then fill the cup (8 oz total) with sweet milk.
4. Add the liquid mixture and vanilla to the dry ingredients; mix to combine.
5. Bake at 350°F for 25–30 minutes. -
Oat Meal Bread
Oat Meal Bread.
1 cups rolled oats.
1/4 " molasses.
1 teaspoon salt.
1 tablespoon lard.
Pour by 1 pint boiling
water and let cool.
Then add 1/2 yeast cake
dissolved in a little water.
Stir in about a quart of
bread flour.
Let rise over night.
Make into 2 loaves and
let rise again - then bake
in not a severely hot oven.
Walnuts may be used. I
have never used them.

# Oat Meal Bread

## Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp lard
- 1 pint boiling water
- 1/2 yeast cake, dissolved in a little water
- About 1 quart bread flour
## Instructions
1. Combine rolled oats, molasses, salt, and lard.
2. Pour 1 pint of boiling water over the mixture and let cool.
3. Add the 1/2 yeast cake dissolved in a little water.
4. Stir in about a quart of bread flour.
5. Let rise overnight.
6. Make into 2 loaves and let rise again.
7. Bake in a not severely hot oven.
## Notes
Walnuts may be used. I have never used them. -

- 1 lb salt pork
- 1 qt dry beans
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp pepper
- Pinch of baking soda
- Hot water to cover
## Instructions
1. Combine salt pork, dry beans, dry mustard, salt, sugar, pepper, and a pinch of soda.
2. Cover with hot water.
3. Bake all day. -

## Ingredients
- 1 egg, beaten light
- 1 Tbsp shortening, melted
- 1 cup sweet milk
- 1/2 cup sugar (scant)
- 3/4 cup corn meal (granulated)
- 1 1/4 cup flour (all-round)
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
## Instructions
1. Beat egg until light.
2. Melt shortening and combine with egg, sweet milk, and sugar.
3. Add granulated corn meal and all-round flour, mixing well.
4. Stir in cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
5. Bake at 375°F for 15 minutes. -

1/4 Cup Indian Meal
and stir while sprinkling into 1 quart of
scalded milk. Stir and cook until the tapioca
is transparent, then stir into the pudding
1 cup of molasses 1/2 teaspoon salt
and 2 tablespoons butter. Turn into a buttered
baking dish
Pour over the top 1½ cups cold milk and set
in the oven without stirring

- 1/4 cup Indian meal (cornmeal)
- 1 quart milk, scalded
- 1 cup molasses
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 1 1/2 cups cold milk
- Raisins or dates (optional, a few)
## Instructions
1. Mix together the tapioca and Indian meal, then stir while sprinkling into 1 quart of scalded milk.
2. Stir and cook until the tapioca is transparent.
3. Stir into the pudding: 1 cup molasses, 1/2 tsp salt, and 2 Tbsp butter.
4. Turn into a buttered baking dish.
5. Pour 1 1/2 cups cold milk over the top and set in the oven without stirring.
6. Bake about 1 hour.
7. Add a few raisins or dates if on hand.
