# Orange Cookies
## Ingredients
### Cookies
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp grated orange rind
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup liquid (1/2 sour milk + 1/2 orange juice)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 3/4 cups flour (no more)
### Frosting
- 1 1/2 tsp grated orange rind
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp butter
- 1 1/3 cups orange juice
## Instructions
### Cookies
1. Cream together brown sugar and shortening.
2. Beat in eggs, grated orange rind, and vanilla.
3. Mix in salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
4. Add the liquid (sour milk and orange juice combined) alternately with flour. Use no more than 2 3/4 cups flour.
5. Drop or shape cookies and bake until done.
### Frosting
1. Combine powdered sugar, grated orange rind, butter, and enough orange juice to reach a spreadable consistency.
2. Spread or drizzle over cooled cookies. -

½ cup shortening 1¾ cups flour
1 cup sugar ½ tsp. salt
1 beaten egg 1 tsp. baking powder
1 teaspoon grated orange rind
Cream shortening, add sugar and cream together. Add
beaten egg and orangerind, beat well. Add flour which has been
sifted with salt and baking powder, beat well. Chill till
firm, roll thin and cut with cookie cutter. Bake at 350
for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 2 or 3 dozen cookies.

## Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 beaten egg
- 1 tsp grated orange rind
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
## Instructions
1. Cream shortening, add sugar and cream together.
2. Add beaten egg and orange rind; beat well.
3. Add flour which has been sifted with salt and baking powder; beat well.
4. Chill until firm.
5. Roll thin and cut with cookie cutter.
6. Bake at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes. -

glaze. Beat remaining eggs and add cream
add all at once to flour mixture and stir
until form a soft dough. Turn on slightly floured
board. and knead 30 second. roll 1/2 inc thick and
cut in small triangles. place on ungreased. sheet
Brush tops lightly with white egg. and sprinkle with
sugar. Bake in hot. (slightly hotter) or 10 minutes.

- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 4 Tbsp shortening
- 1 1/2 tsp grated orange rind

## Instructions
1. Mix dry ingredients; cut in shortening. Add orange rind and raisins.
2. Reserve about 1/2 of one egg white for glaze.
3. Beat remaining eggs and add cream; add all at once to flour mixture and stir until it forms a soft dough.
4. Turn onto a slightly floured board and knead 30 seconds.
5. Roll 1/2 inch thick and cut in small triangles.
6. Place on ungreased sheet.
7. Brush tops lightly with reserved egg white and sprinkle with sugar.
8. Bake in a hot (slightly hotter) oven until brown, approximately 10 minutes. -

2 tsp. Calumet - 2/3 cup milk. (about)
½ " salt. - 12 cubes cut sugar
2 tblsp. sugar - ¼ cup orange juice
Prepare as usual. cut in orange rind after
shortening. add milk. until soft. Roll ½ in+
cut small. on top of each biscuit place
x ½ cube of sugar dipped in orange juice
Bake in hot oven. 450 - Makes 24 Biscuits!

- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 4 Tbsp shortening
- 1 tsp grated orange rind
- 2/3 cup milk (about)
- 12 cubes cut sugar
- 1/4 cup orange juice
## Instructions
1. Prepare as usual. Cut in orange rind after shortening.
2. Add milk until soft.
3. Roll 1/2 inch thick and cut small.
4. On top of each biscuit place 1/2 cube of sugar dipped in orange juice.
5. Bake in hot oven at 450°. Makes 24 biscuits. -

Mix together
½ cups shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp. grated orange rind
Stir in 1/4 cup pineapple or orange juice.
Sift together and stir in
2½ cups flour
1 tsp. soda
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. nutmeg
(over)

1 cup mixed candied fruit
½ cup chopped nuts
Bake on greased cooky sheet. 10 to 12 mins.

Makes 5 dozen
## Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp grated orange rind
- 1/4 cup pineapple or orange juice
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 cup seedless raisins
- 1 cup mixed candied fruit
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
## Instructions
1. Mix together shortening, sugar, egg, and grated orange rind.
2. Stir in pineapple or orange juice.
3. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg, then stir into the wet mixture.
4. Mix in seedless raisins, mixed candied fruit, and chopped nuts.
5. Drop onto a greased cookie sheet.
6. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
